Homegrown Basil Salt

Have more fresh basil than you know what to do with? Basil salt is a wonderful way to capture that garden flavor and enjoy it beyond the growing season. Sprinkle it over tomatoes, pasta, pizza, eggs, roasted potatoes, vegetables, chicken, or fish, or simply add a pinch to olive oil for dipping crusty bread. It brings the familiar flavor of basil to the table in an easy seasoning you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup Coarse Kosher Salt
  • 1 – 1/2 Cup Fresh Basil Leaves

Directions: Wash and thoroughly dry the basil. Pulse the basil and salt together in a food processor until finely chopped. Spread into a thin layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake at 225°F or your ovens lowest temperature for 20–30 minutes, stirring halfway through, until completely dry. Cool completely before breaking up any clumps and transferring to an airtight container.
